Taiwan-based HTC and China UnionPay have launched the first
smartphone with built-in mobile payment capabilities which supports
the card association’s m-payment standards.

Newspaper China Daily reported the launch of the
new smartphone covering some of the smartphone’s various functions
including credit card payment, booking film tickets and paying
mobile phone fees.

China UnionPay revealed in a statement that
the  product will arrive on the market as early as September
this year. 

Head of the Asia and China Enterprise
department of HTC Corp Dennis Chen told China Daily that
HTC has been developing the mobile payment handset for over a year.
She said: “We co-operated with China UnionPay for merely six months
before we introduced the device.”

Chen continued to say that it is likely that
promotions of China UnionPay’s mobile payment services may go
beyond China. At present, the Chinese bank-card processor provides
services in more than 120 countries.
