NFC software and systems provider ViVotech has
announced the immediate availability of a new POS terminal that
could save merchants more than $2bn a year.
The ViVopay 8100 terminals accept swipe, chip
and contactless cards as well as NFC-enabled mobile phones, meaning
it is compliant with the Visa Technology Innovation Program (TIP),
currently being used to aid the migration to EMV contact and
contactless chip technology to the US.
The ViVopay 8100 meets the initiative’s
requirements in that eligible merchants using the terminal will no
longer have to validate their compliance with the Payment Card
Industry Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS) for fraud protection, a
practice that costs US businesses more than $2bn a year.
“It’s about time the US joins the rest of the
world, which has been using highly secure contact and contactless
chip technology for nearly a decade,” said Michael Mullagh, CEO of
ViVotech.
“We have the affordable technology available
today in the new ViVOpay 8100 for merchants to take advantage of
Visa’s incentives while benefiting from rich NFC mobile
commerce.”
The ViVopay 8100 is compatible with most
popular payment terminals and electronic cash register (ECR)
systems used by merchants in the US. It also allows merchants to
deliver personalised services to customers using NFC phones through
ViVotech mLoyalty programme, coupons and social networking
software.
