NCR has developed a cloud-based POS software which it will
market to its merchants using touchscreen POS and Apple mobile
devices such as the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad via the iTunes app
store.

The software platform combines the traditional POS with
increasingly crucial customer management aspects: The merchant can
access their data and configure their systems in the cloud and also
track customer history and, accordingly, launch e-marketing
campaigns to its customers.

NCR said the software was “specifically for entrepreneurial
brick and mortar retailers and product and service providers
without a traditional storefront” and plans to distribute it in
early spring.

Besides the use on Apple mobile devices, the software is also
available on pre-configured NCR POS terminals, which will involve a
self-configured registration and implementation process.

The software has all the regular features – it enables
transaction management, sales and inventory tracking and credit
card processing.

In addition to the regular features, the software comes with
on-demand options, such as an integrated barcode scanner, a
magnetic stripe reader with end-to-end encryption (which can also
be used on Apple devices).

“This new solution makes big-box retail technology
accessible for all and enables merchants to focus on their
business, not on managing technology,” said Christian Nahas, vice
president of specialty retail, NCR Retail.

“We are actively talking to all types of organisations who
sell to small businesses and the feedback has been overwhelming:
they can’t wait to take this product to their
customers.”
