American Express (AmEx) is utilising the
social media impact on marketing success and has teamed up with
Twitter to offer US cardholders discounts through their tweets.
Once Amex cardholders have synced their cards
with their Twitter accounts on sync.americanexpress.com/twitter,
they can earn rewards by tweeting special offer hashtags from
participating retailers, including Best Buy, Dell, H&M,
McDonald’s, TicketMaster or Virgin America.

Experience unmatched clarity with a single platform that combines unique data, AI, and human expertise.
After such tweets, the card holder receives
rewards directly into their account, without any coupons or
paper-based vouchers. If the user buys these special offer products
online or in-store, they receive a statement credit “within days”
showing their savings on the item price.
“AmEx is turning Twitter content into commerce
by connecting cardmembers to merchants and delivering real world
value to both,” said Ed Gilligan, vice chairman, AmEx.
“With the continued convergence of
online and offline commerce, our closed loop continues to enable us
to bring seamless, relevant ways to connect our cardmembers and
merchants on the most powerful social and digital
platforms.”
