Twitter is reportedly in talks with mobile and online payment providers Stripe for a deal that could result in a break into to e-commerce market.
Some reports suggest that that Twitter has also been talking to PayPal about a possible payments deal.
If Twitter were to team up with Stripe, the micro-blogging platform would be able to offer customers a service allowing people to pay by card in-tweet.
Stripe, a recent start-up provides companies with an embeddable API which can easily accept credit cards.
Twitter has so far remained silent on the rumors but tech sites are reporting that it may resemble fledgling mobile POS provider Square, led by Twitter chairman Jack Dorsey, one of the better received mobile payments start-ups in the US, due to a deal with Starbucks.
Twitter recently hired former Ticketmaster CEO Nathan Hubbard as its new head of commerce.
