Pakistan’s Meezan Bank has partnered with ATM manufacturer Diebold and its distributor TouchPoint to deploy 50 energy-efficient cash machines across the country.
The ‘Diebold 429’ operates on as little as 70 watts of power – to a maximum of 100 watts – and features a management system able to counteract unreliable power availability.

It continuously monitors the power required to complete transactions and automatically alternate between possible energy sources such as solar panel, alternating current grid and internal battery.
Tabish Sabah, CEO at TouchPoint, said: “Meezan Bank’s new Diebold 429 ATMs will significantly reduce the bank’s energy costs while ensuring its customers have reliable and expanded access to self-service banking.”
The machine also features integrated security solutions such as Europay, MasterCard and Visa card readers, as well as biometric technology.

Based in Karachi, Meezan Bank runs more than 350 branches in more than 100 cities and its ATM network counts about 315 machines.
In April, BankIslami Pakistan also announced the deployment of 25 ‘Diebold 429’ ATMs. At the time, the bank’s CEO Hasan Bilgrami commented:
