UnionPay and Australia and New Zealand Banking Group (ANZ) have announced that UnionPay cards will be accepted by all ATMs and POS terminals across nine South Pacific island countries.

In April 2014, UnionPay has signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement with ANZ. After that, ANZ launched the UnionPay card acceptance in over 80,000 POS terminals and more than 2,000 ATMs in Australia.
In January 2016, ANZ had enabled its ATMs and merchants in New Zealand to accept UnionPay cards.
The latest agreement will expand their cooperation to nine South Pacific island countries including Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu, Samoa, Tonga, Cook Islands, Solomon Islands, Kiribati and East Timor.
With the recent collaboration with ANZ, the UnionPay card acceptance coverage will increase to more than 90% in Fiji that will offer convenient payment service to UnionPay cardholders travelling to Fiji.

By GlobalDataUnionPay said that its card service will be launched for the first time in Kiribati and East Timor and UnionPay card payment will be accepted by merchants for the first time in Samoa, Solomon Islands and Cook Islands.
Further, ANZ will enable UnionPay card ATM acceptance in Asian markets such as Cambodia and Vietnam.
UnionPay International CEO Cai Jianbo said: "With the increasingly frequent economic and trade contacts between China and the region, we are devoted to improving the local UnionPay acceptance environment so as to provide payment convenience to UnionPay cardholders visiting the countries.
"Our co-operation with ANZ not only substantially improved UnionPay’s acceptance footprint and card-using experiences in South Pacific, but will also play a solid foundation for card-issuance there in the future."
