US-based Bangor Savings Bank has announced that it will issue new debit cards following a massive data breach that occurred at multiple local and national retailers.

The bank said that no personal information was compromised and just some debit card data has been hacked. The bank clarified that issuance of new card will help thwart fraudulent transaction.

The bank has informed its customers individually about the compromise and the issuing of new debit cards. The new card issuance is expected to be completed by the last week of June, the bank said.

Bangor Savings Bank senior vice president and chief risk officer Andrew Grover said: "Those who have been affected will receive information by email or postal mail on how to activate the new card and what steps to take.

"We strongly encourage customers to activate the new debit cards as soon as the new card and pin are received."
