UnionPay International and the National Bank of Greece (NBG) have entered into a partnership, whereby both parties will work to enable all of NBG’s ATMs and POS terminals to accept UnionPay cards.

According to UnionPay, customers will be able to pay with UnionPay cards at almost all the merchants equipped with POS terminals in Greece by the end of 2017. Until now, the top four lenders in Greece have accepted UnionPay.

NBG CEO Leonidas Fragkiadakis said that he is willing to promote the ATMs and POS terminals in the NBG network to accept UnionPay as soon as possible.

Fragkiadakis also believes that the cooperation between the two sides will offer more convenient and safe payment services to tourists visiting Greece while bring more customers to the local merchants, and thus realize an all-win result.
