Designed to enable digital toll collection, FASTags are prepaid rechargeable tags affixed on vehicle windscreens.

Once a vehicle crosses a toll gate, FASTags process allows automatic toll payment directly from the account linked with tag. It leverages Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to enable such payments.

The payment technology has been made mandatory on national highways.

Under the collaboration, CSC will integrate its platform with Paytm Payments Bank to enable such transactions. The village level entrepreneurs (VLEs) will also be trained to carry out cashless sales.

CSC CEO Dinesh Tyagi was quoted by local media sources as saying: “CSCs have been providing FASTag service for the past two years. With FASTags becoming mandatory, we have received more than eight lakh orders from VLEs.

“The transition towards digitisation of toll tax payments through digital payment is a significant step towards modernisation.”

In September 2017, CSC started selling FASTags in partnership with Equitas Bank. Subsequently, State Bank of India and HDFC Bank joined the initiative.

To date, around 284,000 FASTags have been sold by CSCs across the country, The Hindu Business Line reported.
