Low-cost carrier Viva Air has tapped payment solutions provider CellPoint Mobile to add support for Apple Pay, Google Pay, MasterPass and Visa Checkout.

CellPoint will work with Viva Air’s existing payments provider Ingenico to implement these mobile payment methods.

The carrier is said to be the first in Latin America to support Apple Pay and Google Pay.

According to CellPoint, acceptance of mobile payments will offer a payment acceptance rate of more than 99%.

The alliance with CellPoint will enable the carrier to connect to the payment gateway offered by Ingenico and activate an alternative form of payment (AFP) from a payment eco-system comprising more than 200 AFPs.

Viva Air chief projects officer Kevin Weber said: “Launching these leading digital payment methods is imperative for us to better serve our customers as 65% of our users search for their travel options on mobile devices.”
