Amazon has decided to shut down its mobile point-of-sale (mPoS) business, Amazon Register, just a year after launching the service.

The service, which enabled retailers to accept credit or debit card payments on smartphones and tablets with the addition of a dongle, will no longer take on new customers.

The ecommerce giant has informed existing customers to move over to another payments processor by 1 February 2016.

In January, the company also pulled the plug mobile wallet app which enabled users to store loyalty and gift cards.
