Chinese telecom giant Huawei Technologies has announced partnership with China UnionPay (CUP) to expand its mobile payment service Huawei Pay in China.
Using Huawei Pay, China UnionPay card owners can make payments with their own Huawei devices.
Huawei initially launched the payment service in September 2015 on a pilot basis.
The service can be availed by users by downloading a Huawei Pay app on their Huawei smartphones equipped with a fingerprint sensor as well as data-transmission technology called near-field communication, or NFC. It will allow customers to make contactless payments by tapping their handsets against POS readers while pressing the fingerprint reader.
This deal follows the recent launch of Apple Pay and Samsung Pay in mainland China in partnership with UnionPay.
