WEX, a US-based corporate payments company focused on the fleet, travel and healthcare industries, has entered into a partnership with Mastercard.

According to a statement, the collaboration will launch what the companies describe as Asia-Pacific’s first unified fleet payments network, bringing multiple fleet-related expenses into a single payment experience.

The initiative is intended to support fleet payment modernisation across the region and will integrate payments for fuel, vehicle maintenance, tolling and parking.

The programme is projected to process “billions of dollars in annual transactions” as it expands across key Asia-Pacific markets, the statement added.

The partnership links Mastercard’s global payments network with WEX’s virtual card issuing business and its fleet management operations.

Mastercard said fleet managers often use different payment systems for fuel and other operating costs, which can limit visibility and increase reconciliation work. The joint initiative is designed to consolidate these costs and associated data into a single framework.

WEX APAC Mobility vice president and general manager Matt Arthur said: “In 2026, the competitive advantage for fleets is found in simplicity. WEX is already a global pioneer in travel and corporate virtual payments; by joining forces with Mastercard in this new capacity, we are bringing that same engine of innovation to the APAC mobility sector.”

The partnership will be built around three areas.

The first is unified payments and data infrastructure, which is aimed at replacing separate legacy systems by combining fuel, maintenance, tolling and parking with broader business expenses in a single view.

The second is actionable intelligence and control, including real-time spend controls, automated insights within workflows, and reporting based on line-item details such as fuel types and litres.

The third focus is support for mixed-energy fleets, where businesses will be able to manage fuel, hybrid and electric vehicles through one account and receive a consolidated invoice.

Mastercard Asia Pacific Commercial and New Payment Flows executive vice-president Anouska Ladds said: “Our collaboration with WEX is an essential example of how we scale with impact.

“By combining our global network with their deep industry expertise, we’re helping businesses move faster, operate smarter and prepare for what’s next. Together, we’re setting a new standard for a future-ready mobility ecosystem.”
