Visa has rolled out its real-time push payments platform ‘Visa Direct’ in Canada to facilitate direct business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-consumer (B2C) payments across the country.

The platform allows companies to use of Visa’s global network to transform both domestic and cross-border transactions to businesses and consumers.

Initially, Visa Direct will be leveraged by Peoples Payment Solutions and TELUS Health in Canada to make push payments into a customer’s Visa debit account, leading to quick disbursement of funds.

Visa Canada head of product Brian Weiner said: “Expanding Visa Direct in Canada is an important milestone in our journey to transform the way consumers and businesses around the world pay each other.

“Visa Direct is changing the way we use cards by re-imagining payments for the digital age.”

Peoples Payment Solutions president Howard Klein said: “We are first in Canada to bring the Visa Direct solution directly to fintechs, SMBs, and enterprise customers.

“Working in conjunction with technology leaders, like Visa and TELUS Health, we can now offer a comprehensive set of APIs that enable businesses to send real-time payments to Visa debit cards in Canada.”

Available in more than 200 markets, Visa Direct enables B2B, B2C as well as person-to-person (P2P) payments. The P2P capability has been live in Canada since 2013.
