Centrapay has forged a partnership with US-based payment platform Verifone to roll out its contactless payments service in New Zealand.

The solution comes without per transaction fee for businesses in the country.

The partners have combined their technologies to personalise the merchant and consumer payment experience.

The new contactless payments platform will allow merchants and consumers to process NZD payments in real-time.

They can also process Giftstation gift cards, accept digital assets, redeem Grab One vouchers, and utilise loyalty programmes.

Additionally, they can also provide product and service feedback, send or participate in surveys, use digital identity solutions, as well as offset carbon emissions.

These features can be accessed via an app and a QR code on a Verifone payment device.

Applications can be remotely deployed at merchant locations using Verifone’s payment APIs.

They use QR codes or near-field communication (NFC) to connect with Centrapay’s mobile wallets like the Sylo Smart Wallet.

It also connects with existing point of sale (POS) terminals, removing the need to replace the hardware.

Verifone GM Pete Hansen said: “The company has around 50% market share of payment devices deployed in New Zealand.

“It is committed to leading innovation for its merchants and focused on collaborating with companies like Centrapay to provide more flexibility and enhanced payment experiences for merchants and consumers.”

Centrapay CEO Jerome Faury said: “If a customer and the merchant have a Centrapay-powered QR code or application, the two can now interact and engage in richer and more meaningful ways.

“Now customers can not only pay securely and easily but they can also now access a range of on-device options like providing feedback on a service or product or offsetting the carbon footprint of their purchase.”

Last month, Amatil X – the bottler of The Coca-Cola Company – has acquired a minority stake in Centrapay.
