Allied Irish Bank (AIB) has added Apple Pay support for its customers, allowing them to link their debit and credit cards with the digital wallet to make contactless payments.

Now, the bank’s customer can use Apple Pay by swiping their iPhone or tapping Apple Watch over a contactless payment terminal in a participating merchant location.

Apple Pay digital wallet is secure and private, as a unique Device Account Number is assigned, encrypted and securely stored in the device instead of sharing the original card number.

During the payment process, each transaction is authenticated using either through Touch ID or a one-time unique dynamic security code at the terminal.

AIB head of digital products Fergal Coburn said, “Supporting Apple Pay is the latest in a number of innovative, customer focused developments that cements digital banking as an essential part of our customer’s daily lives.

“It’s about making banking more convenient for AIB customers, the way people are banking is changing and with Apple Pay our customers will have even greater choice in the way they purchase goods and services.”
