Mastercard has partnered with China-based e-commerce and logistics company JD.com to develop new payments capabilities.

The companies will initially focus on expanding payment infrastructure for cross-border commerce and improving the experience for inbound visitors to China. The partnership also includes collaboration on applying AI and other advanced technologies to commerce and fraud prevention tools.

As part of the partnership, Mastercard and JD.com will work to integrate and enhance global payment connectivity. The companies plan to develop payments infrastructure to support JD.com’s international operations and enable additional use cases in cross-border commerce.

The two companies also agreed to explore a cross-border supply chain finance ecosystem. The initiative is intended to support small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) by improving access to financing and enabling participation in international trade.

JD.com and Mastercard will expand collaboration to increase payment choices for international travellers in China. This includes supporting broader acceptance of international cards. The companies also plan to work on checkout and shopping experiences and tax-refund processes for overseas visitors across JD.com’s e-commerce platforms and retail channels.

In addition, the companies said they will explore agentic AI-powered purchasing solutions through Mastercard Agent Pay. The partnership also covers plans to expand co-branded card initiatives.

The partnership also includes further cooperation in risk management, identity authentication and anti-fraud solutions.
