The move will allow Global Payments clients to accept Wero payments across Europe. The company stated that this will give consumers more choice and flexibility at checkout.

It also positioned the initiative as part of its wider effort to expand payment acceptance capabilities in Europe and deliver new solutions for clients.

Global Payments Enterprise Product head James Fry said: “Consumers increasingly expect flexibility at checkout. By 2030, we expect mobile’s share of e-commerce will be nearly 65%.

“Our collaboration with Wero gives European clients another secure way to meet those expectations – complementing existing payment options and enhancing the experience they are able to offer their customers.”

According to Wero website, the solution is live in Belgium, France, and Germany. The system allows transfers using a phone number, QR code or in-app flows.

Built on SEPA Instant Credit Transfer rails, the service supports more than 52 million consumers for everyday payments. The solution initially focused on peer-to-peer transactions and is progressively rolling out support for online retail transactions throughout 2026.

Global Payments said its clients will be able to add Wero as a checkout option through an integration that does not require additional hardware or interfaces. It also said that offering Wero alongside existing payment methods is intended to support customer preferences and enable instant payment flows at checkout.

EPI Company CEO Martina Weimert said: “By teaming up with Global Payments, we’re enabling new merchants to unlock further opportunities to an extended base of potential customers, instantly, securely, and cost-efficiently.”

Global Payments completed its acquisition of Worldpay in January 2026. The deal formed part of a broader transaction that also saw FIS acquire Global Payments’ Issuer Solutions business.
